Overview: SafeAssign Plagiarism Detection

SafeAssign is a fully integrated plagiarism detection service by Blackboard, Inc. It compares submitted assignments against multiple databases of source material to identify areas of overlap between the submitted assignment and existing works.

SafeAssign is effective as both a deterrent and an educational tool. Use SafeAssign to review assignment submissions for originality and create opportunities to help students identify how to properly attribute sources rather than paraphrase.

Assignment Types

SafeAssign only works with submission assignments (those where students submit a document or textual answer. It does not currently work with Discussions, Blogs, or Journals. However, faculty do have the option to use SafeAssign DirectSubmit to check these types of assignments.
