Academic Integrity:

Blackboard SafeAssign is a fully integrated plagiarism detection service for your Blackboard online classroom. It compares submitted assignments against multiple databases of source material to identify areas of overlap between the submitted assignment and existing works.

Turnitin is a plagiarism detection service.

Good to know:

  • Turnitin is integrated into our Blackboard environment via an LTI integration which allows faculty to use Turnitin.com features in their courses without requiring students to leave Blackboard or sign in with a separate account

  • Due to integration limitations, Turnitin assignments do not appear on the Blackboard course calendar

ProctorU is an online proctored exam solution.

Good to know:

  • ProctorU is not currently integrated into Blackboard but an integration is currently under development and a pilot is planned for an upcoming term.

Collaboration:

Blackboard Collaborate is a fully integrated web conferencing solution for your Blackboard online classroom.

Course messages are private text communications that occurs within courses among course members.

Good to know:

  • Users must be logged in to a course to read and send course messages.

  • Messages are all inside Blackboard and all course faculty and administrators have access to review those messages. This is a good alternative to email when the conversation between faculty and student should be preserved for the academic record.

Faculty can use the Kaltura Media tool to post video announcements in their courses.

Blackboard Retention Center is an academic performance monitoring tool faculty can use to help identify any students who may be struggling.

Good to know:

  • Because every course is different, instructors wishing to customize this tool will need to do so in each course section they are teaching.

Simulations and Labs:

EHR Go is an educational EHR designed for concept and clinical-based learning, with customizable, realistic, diverse patients and activities. www.EHRGo.com

Good to know:

  • EHR Go is not integrated with Blackboard.

  • Currently only available for the following programs:

    • Occupational Therapy

    • Informatics

    • Family Nurse Practitioner

    • Physical Therapy

    • Speech Language Pathology

Video Assignments and Discussions:

Faculty can use the Kaltura Media tool to create video assignments. This can mean an assignment with a video prompt, video submissions by the students, or both.

VoiceThread is a 3rd party learning tool that allows instructors and students to create, share, and comment on images, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, videos, audio files, documents, and PDFs.

Good to know:

  • VoiceThread is integrated into our Blackboard environment using an LTI integration. Using the integration, students and faculty no longer need to create a separate VoiceThread account.

  • If you are already using VoiceThread with an email address other than your USA email address, and you wish to use the integration moving forward, please reach out to onlineedsupport@usa.edu to have your accounts merged so you don’t lose your content.
