Ignoring, Clearing, or Allowing Additional Assignment Attempts

If there are circumstances where a student needs to be given the opportunity to resubmit an assignment, course instructors have the ability to either “Ignore” or “Clear” the current attempt.

In instances where the student submitted the assignment with the wrong attachment or similar situations, you can use the “Clear Attempt” option to remove the submission completely since it is not relevant. In most cases though, you will want to use the “Ignore Attempt” option or “Allow Additional Attempt”. Either of those will allow the student to submit the assignment again, but will maintain the original submission history and attachments in the grade center.

Using the “Clear Attempt” button deletes the student submission completely, including the record of the submission and any feedback to the student that you entered. It is recommended you use this option with caution.

Accessing the Attempts for a Particular Student

  1. Go to the Course Management menu below the main course menu and select Full Grade Center.

  2. In the grade center, select the options menu icon next to the student submission you wish to view and then select the “View Grade Details” option from drop down.

Ignore an Attempt

  1. On the Grade Details page, select the “Attempts” tab.

  2. Select the “Ignore Attempt” button to ignore the current attempt and allow the student to submit again.

Allow an Additional Attempt

  1. On the Grade Details page, select the “Attempts” tab.

  2. Select the “Allow Additional Attempt” button to allow the student to submit another attempt.

Clear an Attempt

  1. On the Grade Details page, select the “Attempts” tab.

  2. Select the “Clear Attempt” button to delete the students current attempt.

Using the “Clear Attempt” button deletes the student submission completely, including the record of the submission and any feedback to the student that you entered. It is recommended you use this option with caution.
